ADBiB (Art & Design Books in Brighton)

ADBiB is a web-based learning resource providing visitors with a guide to over 50 collections of books, journals and archives related to the history of art and design, which are held in the libraries and museums of Brighton & Hove.

Within the city limits of Brighton and Hove there is a large number of collections of books relating to the history of art and design. Unfortunately, these collections are not all located in one place which can make a researcher's job a very difficult and often time-consuming one. Adaptive Technologies were commissioned to design and devlop the ADBiB website to make life easier for researchers in this field.

The main function of the website is to provide access to a searchable database of all the various collections of art and design related books in Brighton & Hove.

It also offers improved access for dyslexia sufferers by offering a background colour chooser.

ADBiB Search results

The website provides an interface to a MySQL database containing the details of the collections so that visitors to the site can search for relevant material in a number of different ways.

Following the completion and launch of the ADBiB website, its design and functionality have been adopted for the development of a nationwide website providing similar information about art and design collections drawn from institutions across the United Kingdom. We were commissioned to develop this site for the Art Libraries Society under the name of Arlis.
